June ...clouds drift across the morning light as cowboys and gals gather cattle to brand this years calves. My camera waits as I sketch, and I reflect on past brandings when I was horseback. One of my favorite memories is when my daughter... heeling in photos coming up now, was a baby and I had the privilege to heel calves beside Marshal Cater (a great cattleman no longer with us) in the Texas panhandle. But this is now, and these photos are from my daughter's neighbor's branding. Thumbnails can be enlarged by clicking on them.

All in a Days Work
Kim heads to the branding fire with calf
Nice bit! Neat horse!
Kim & Grace bring another one in to the crew
One of my favorite shots, nice slack gather
They wait for the double hocks in front of them
Two courious bystanders on the sidelines
Another double hocked calf hits the dirt
Waiting and soaking in the experience
After a long hot day, Kim takes Grace to the trailer after watering her
Hobbled by his own rope
A good using horse waits quiet
Eenie-meenie-my-nie....mine mine soon
I'd rather be hobbled and graze then tied to a fence
Bringing One In
Time Out
